PostHeaderIcon I need suggestions on copy for some ads. Are there websites that have free Copywriting Critiques?

There are some sites that offer free copy critiques. However, I would not recommend them. They are usually trying to "up sell" you something or will do the critique but require a payment for you to see what they find. If you would like I would be willing to read your copy and offer some suggestions to help you……and yes for free. I can be reached by email at rob@sitepsychiatrist.com

PostHeaderIcon How to become a copywriter?

Is it difficult to become a copywriter? How did you become one of them? In case you did.

It’s not too difficult to become a copywriter, per se, but it does take strong writing skills and an exceptional portfolio to GET a job as a copywriter.

Now, there are a few different ways you can enter the advertising field, depending on what career path you want to take. Like, if you want to work on Nike vs. doing brochures for the local resort hotel.

The most common start is to get a degree in communications from a college. Unfortunately, most college programs don’t offer strong portfolio classes so graduates don’t typically have "great books," which is a collection/portfolio of work that showcases the person’s talents.

Another option is to go to an advertising school, which is what I did (after college). Schools like Miami Ad School, Portfolio Center, and Creative Circus focus exclusively on creative fields like copywriting and art direction. They aren’t cheap, but students graduate with great books and are fully trained for positions as copywriters. (Most of the "best" agencies in the country recruit from these schools ONLY.)

A third option is to get a job at an advertising agency in whatever capacity you can and "work your way" to a copywriter position. This is the hardest because most agencies don’t typically train employees. This is also the longest path to actually becoming a copywriter, unless you have exceptional skills.

Advertising is extremely competitive. Not knowing what area of the country you live in, you may be faced with a shortage of good agencies where you can apply. That’s why a lot of creatives move from city to city. Still, it’s a great career to have. But, it’s not for everyone and not everyone can do it, to be honest. Remember: the one thing that will get you a job in advertising as a copywriter is a great portfolio. Get one and you should be good to go!

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Brief:
This was part of a national initiative launched by the times of India on 1st Jan 2007, the first day of India’s 6oth year of independence. The objective was to capture the essence of a resurgent nation poised tantalizingly on the edge of redemption. And to send out a clarion call for the one final thrust that would take her from a potential nation to a kinetic power.

Solution:
The Times of India wanted to find a stimulus that would break the social inertia of acceptance and tolerance and galvanize an entire nation to be the face of change in India. As M.K. Gandhi said, “We must be the change we want to see in this world.” The entire effort was to elevate a newspaper from merely being a social mouthpiece to a catalyst of social change!

Results:
Over 37,000 participants. The campaign website registered more than 1.3 million hits at last count. More than a million YouTube downloads. The television programme was telecast on the Star One channel, part of India’s largest television network. The programme had 7 sponsors—all leading corporations. The British High Commission has announced to sponsor a Chevening Leadership course at the London School of Economics for three Lead India finalists. More than 20 celebrities volunteered to participate free of charge. The winner will also go on to receive support to contest from a constituency of his choice in the next general elections.

What college major do you need?

Poster Sammy really didn’t understand the question. Some of these people cannot read, it seems. Anyway, you don’t need college necessarily, however, courses in advertising, copywriting, product development, and that type of thing will help you. You also need a flair for the art of coywriting, a fertile imagination, and a quick turn around time.
