A lot of people writing an excellent articles and posting them trough websites like PR-Web, Article-City, ETC…
You can start there, and move on a become a great freelancer, ot even newspaper copywriter (save your articles for portfolio).

Yes, but no one is going to hire you without work samples or a portfolio. If you do get hired without that, they are going to be crummy jobs with rate ads and other boring brochure stuff.
If you want a good book, go to creativecircus.com or check out VCUAdcenter or Brainco to learn how to do great work. Also read Luke Sullivan’s Hey Whipple Squeeze This. It’s fundemental creative thinking for writers and art directors.
